Public Skating and Skating Lessons

Come practice your moves for hockey, get some exercise, spend time with the kids, or just enjoy gliding across the ice. The Kings Arrow Arena, Soldiers Arena, and the Town of Oromocto’s outdoor rinks provide FREE ice surfaces to put those skates to use during public skates.

Indoor Rock Climbing

The Base Gym has an amazing indoor climbing wall! A range of ages are welcome, and climbing harnesses and ropes are provided! The wall is open every Mon, Thu & Sat night between 1830-2100 hr. Indoor White Water Paddling

Are you looking to fine-tune your kayak rolling skills? Want to LEARN TO ROLL? Looking to make some paddling friends? Come splash, roll, and float around with other local paddlers! You’ll receive basic orientation to the pool sessions, learn how to maneuver, and how to feel comfortable on the water. Everyone is welcome, sessions are open to the general public and to paddlers of all ages! Drop-in Indoor Volleyball

Oromocto has drop-in co-ed volleyball every Wed and Sun evening between 1930-2130 hr for adults 18 years and older. Cost is FREE for Rec Association and military members, $2.25 for non-members. Call 422-2000 Ext. 2660 or 2749 for more information!

Indoor Swimming Pool and Sauna

Looking for swim lessons or just a chance to splash around or relax in a sauna? The Base Gym’s pool and change rooms have everything from saunas and Mom & Tot swims to lessons and lap swims. There is a water slide, too! Call 422-3380 for more information.

SCUBA Diving

Tankers SCUBA Club, located on Base Gagetown, is a fully serviced recreational dive club that offers training to military families and the community of Oromocto. Meet new people and enjoy the adventure of SCUBA diving! To learn more, drop by the club during their open hours each week Tue & Thu between 1900-2100 hr or check out their Facebook page here. Indoor Track and Basketball, Badminton, and Squash Courts

Want to access facilities and do your own thing? The Base Gym has an indoor track where you can get that run in, as well as access to basketball, badminton, and squash courts. Weight and Cardio Rooms

Fitness Classes

Want to get fit, meet new people, and have fun? The Base Gym’s fitness classes are for you. Ball Hockey

Ball hockey is taking place at the gym every Sun evening (except 16 Apr) between 1730-1830 hr until 14 May for children ages 5-8 yr and 9-12 yr. The focus is to get active and have fun. Payment options are flexible but spots are limited, so please register if you or your child plan to play on a consistent basis. Jerseys, sticks, and goggles are supplied. The Oromocto Boxing Club (OBC) offers recreational and competitive boxing to men, women, and children of all ages. It is a non-profit organization with the vision of promoting the sport of boxing. Prices are affordable and the first class is FREE! The club has heavy bags, Muay Tai bags, punching dummies, speed bags, wall bags, double end bags, and assorted equipment to help you learn how to box, train to compete, spar, and improve your level of fitness! The local Dragons Judo Club is a school for people of all ages. The technical director, Jean Pierre Cantin, is an Olympian from Barcelona 1992, 12-time National Champion, and 6th degree Black belt. The programs are based on Sport Canada Long Term Athlete Development Model and Martial Arts Philosophy.

Adventure Racing

Our local Natural Selection Adventure Racing (NSAR) hosts a range of events from autumn to spring, including Who’s Your Daddy, Race the Phantom, Halloween’s Woola-Stalk Run/Bike for Your Life, and autumn’s Cold Water & Crunchy Leaves. If you like mountain biking, trail running, and canoeing/kayaking, be sure to check NSAR out!

Kayaking, Canoeing, and Stand-up Paddle Boarding

Oromocto’s Ecological Adventures is perfectly situated where the Oromocto and St. John Rivers meet. Rent a kayak, canoe, or paddle board and explore both of these beautiful rivers. Glide under bridges, find geocaches, spot some wildlife, and enjoy the sound of your paddle hitting the water.

The Gage Golf and Curling club is a well-maintained 18-hole course. The club has drop-in and membership rates as well as opportunities to participate in tournaments.
